Stalker 2 isn’t published by Microsoft, but the company has still been “so supportive” to its devs: “It would have been much different without them”

After multiple delays, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is set to bring us back to the Exclusion Zone in November, and according to GSC Game World’s PR manager, Microsoft has been very supportive of the team throughout the first-person shooter’s development. The team at Ukrainian developer GSC Game World has faced incredibly challenging working conditions while producing Stalker 2, with the war in Ukraine forcing the devs to pause production in 2022 and relocate to Prague. It’s understandable that the game’s release ended up being pushed back, and according to PR manager Zakhar Bocharov, Microsoft itself has been considerate in this regard. The Xbox owner isn’t publishing Stalker 2 – GSC Game World is doing that itself – but the two do have a deal to put the upcoming FPS title on Game Pass on its release day.In an interview with TheGamer at Gamescom 2024, Bocharov says that the company hasn’t just been supportive by not enforcing “demands” for Stalker 2’s release date, bu…

The Metal Gear Solid 3 remake is “already playable” from start to finish, so the release date is “not going to be years and years” away

We’ve gotten a few new details on the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake – or Metal Gear Solid Delta, if you prefer the official title – as part of Konami’s latest Production Hotline broadcast. While the devs aren’t willing to commit to a release date just yet, they did address fan questions about when the remake is finally going to launch.”Unfortunately, we’re still not able to name a date just quite yet,” production producer Noriaki Okamura says. “We’re working very hard on the development, I promise, but we’re just not yet at the stage where we can say with confidence exactly when it will be out. I can tell you that, from start to finish, the whole game is already playable, so we know it’s not going to be years and years. Nothing like that, I’m pretty sure.”

After Patch 7, Baldur’s Gate 3 player finds new “impossible” evil ending that Larian cut from the RPG, where your Tav gets sick of it all and “peaces out” at the big finale

Baldur’s Gate 3’s seventh major update is here – bringing with it a monstrous 18,000 words worth of patch notes – and one player has just discovered a new fiendish ending that proves the age-old adage about apathy being one of the truest forms of evil.I always love when an RPG lets players loose to be a little more than mischievous, and Baldur’s Gate 3 was happy to oblige throughout its mammoth campaign. Developer Larian Studios has now given evil-doers some new finales to wrap up their hours spent being mean and nasty. One of the scrapped endings that came with the seventh patch has actually been fully animated and left hidden in the game’s files, unreachable in normal runs due to the recurring “impossible” tag blocking it off. It isn’t so plainly evil, though – your character simply decides that they kind of can’t be bothered to finish the fight, right before they’re about to subjugate innocents to the Absolute’s power. YouTuber SlimX discovered the “impossible” ending, and you can se…

At a rough time for Destiny 2, Bungie says it will reveal more of the MMO’s next chapter, Codename Frontiers, next week – but 10th anniversary plans are “light”

The cycle of ups and downs that has defined Destiny 2 reached new extremes in the aftermath of The Final Shape. The best expansion in the MMO’s history was almost immediately followed by severe layoffs at developer Bungie, with many recognizable Destiny veterans among those cut or leaving. Coupled with the end of the Light and Darkness saga which has guided the game thus far, this left the future of Destiny, if not Bungie altogether, uncertain. The backdrop to this is a measurable – albeit not entirely unexpected or atypical – decline in Destiny 2’s player count, with the new Episode model seemingly failing to keep some players on the hook long-term, not to mention unrest exemplified by devoted players like community icon Datto. There have also been rumors of a dramatic shift in business model for Destiny 2, with major expansions potentially getting the axe and with new owner Sony reportedly poised to plunge its hands deeper into Bungie’s operations. Inexplicable techn…

The best Jackal PDW build for Black Ops 6

Best Jackal PDW class

The best Jackal PDW build for the Black Ops 6 beta will have you taking down enemies with the new Omnimovement mechanic to dart across the map in a flash. This SMG has an excellent rate of fire but can be tricky to handle if not set up well and the Jackal PDW is already at the top of the emerging meta for the Black Ops 6 beta, with players using it to quickly dispatch close-range enemies.

This best-in-class performance makes the Jackal PDW one of the best loadouts for Black Ops 6 currently. While there’s still time for another gun to take the top spot as the beta rolls on, for now at least, the Jackal is an extremely fun gun, and when paired with the right Perks, a great way to make sure you’re getting the most out of every match. Below, you’ll find my recommendations for the best BO6 Jackal PDW attachments, what sidearm to pair it with in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, as well as what Perks and Gear t…

2023’s most slept-on RPG finally hits consoles, and at $5 million in sales it’s a big win for a cute series that’s quietly been ticking along for nearly 10 years

With its recent console port, WitchSpring R has made more than $5 million in sales, making it a major win for the wholesome crafty RPG series that’s been trucking along in the background for almost a decade.Beginning life with a series of mobile games, WitchSpring generally puts us in the pointy shoes of chibi potion-brewer for a mix of crafting, cooking, collecting, and turn-based battling. It’s slowly amassed a coven of fans since its 2013 debut, paving the way for its biggest success yet with the most recent game in the now-long-running series. WitchSpring R first bought itself to Steam  shelves last year, where it reached ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ user reviews thanks to its commitment to uncomplicated fun. But after its PlayStation and Nintendo Switch launch last month, developer Kiwiwalks announced that it had “surpassed 5 million USD in global sales.””This marks the shortest period and highest sales in the WitchSpring series’ history,” the developer’s recent blog post s…

Astro Bot devs ditched an “expansive” open-world game because a “two-course meal” beats eating “a lot of food at a buffet”

Astro Bot developer Team Asobi initially considered making the hit platformer an open-world game early in development but decided against it in favor of something more focused.Speaking to the BBC, director Nicolas Doucet reveals that Team Asobi entertained the idea of an open-world game early in development but felt a more segmented, level-based approach was best for the project.”It’s also a very good string to add to a bow,” Doucet says. “Game production can be very complex with a lot of things that go well and a lot of things that don’t go well when you have to pivot all the time and find the best way forward. And it’s really good to have a modular game in which you can swap things around – you can even drop a piece, replace it with something else.”Doucet’s comments follow a rather tasty metaphor about turning away from a game that offers 40 hours in an expansive world in favor of 12 to 15 in a tightly polished game.“You can eat a lot of food at a buffet, or you could jus…
